Why is a 24-Hour Burn-In So Important?

Has this ever happened to you? You pay good money for a brand new network device and wait patiently for it to be delivered, but then when you take it out of the box and hook it up, it turns out that it’s D.O.A. due to some undetected manufacturing defect. That by itself can be pretty frustrating, but then you’re faced with the unpleasant task of boxing the darned thing up again, shipping it back to the manufacturer and then spending your valuable time being interrogated by some overly-cautious service rep before you can get a new product shipped to replace the one that didn’t work. It’s not only frustrating, but it can also throw your entire schedule off track; instead of putting that new console sever or outlet metered PDU to work right away, you’re stuck waiting for another one to be delivered.

That sort of thing can happen all the time if the manufacture doesn’t adequately test each unit before it leaves the factory, but you can rest assured that it won’t happen with a WTI product. In order to ensure that our products will always perform accurately and reliably, right out of the box, WTI performs a rigorous, 24-hour burn-in procedure on each and every product before it leaves our manufacturing facility. During our 24-hour burn-in procedure, WTI units are connected to power and run continuously; test programs are run to make certain that all LEDs, ports and outlets are functioning correctly and each unit is carefully inspected to make sure that all components are properly installed and fit and finish is perfect.

Since our products are shipped world-wide, we are also well aware of the importance of knowing that our products will perform exactly as designed, right out of the box; we realize that this not only saves time for the customer, but it’s also more economical for the manufacturer. It’s both easier and more efficient to make certain that our products are ready to serve you reliably before they leave the factory, rather than trying to take care of problems after they leave the factory.

WTI is proud of the results of this rigorous burn-in procedure; our products are known to have the highest MTBF in the industry and our proven, reliable technology is hard at work in over 100,000 facilities world-wide. Our customers know that they can trust their most mission-critical operations to WTI products.
