Remote Console Access and Power Control in a Compact 1U Device

The ability to access console port command functions and control power reboot functions at remote network equipment sites can be a life saver for any network administrator responsible for maintaining remote network equipment racks. Unfortunately, rack space is often critical at branch offices and kiosks, and sometimes, there just isn’t enough room for both a console server and switched PDU. WTI’s Console Server + Power Control Hybrids solve this problem by combining both remote console access and remote power reboot control in a single, convenient 1U device.

In remote network management applications, an out-of-band solution for remote console access and power reboot control enables network administrators to effective deal with problems at remote sites without the need for a costly, time-consuming service call. Rather than waiting for a service team to travel to the remote site, administrators can quickly establish an out-of-band connection to the remote site and initiate reboots or access console port command functions in order to restore normal operation in a fraction of the time required for a service team to arrive on site.

In cases where normal network communication with the remote site has been disrupted, out-of-band access to remote power reboot control and console port command functions allows administrators to restore normal communication with the remote site without leaving their desks. Although it’s generally easy to fit both a console server and switched PDU into a large network equipment rack, smaller equipment racks often don’t offer enough space to install both devices.

WTI’s Console Server + Switched PDU Hybrid units provide both remote console access and remote power control in a single 1U device to satisfy the out-of-band communication needs of applications that don’t allow enough space for a separate console server and switched PDU to be installed. WTI Console Server + Switched PDUs are also available with both dual Ethernet ports and dual power inlets with built in ATS capabilities. This allows the WTI Console Server + Switched PDU to easily adapt to applications that require network redundancy, and also provides the perfect fit for applications that include power redundancy capabilities.
