Why is a 24-Hour Burn-In So Important?

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Has this ever happened to you? You pay good money for a brand new network device and wait patiently for it to be delivered, but then when you take it out of the box and hook it up, it turns out that it’s D.O.A. due to some undetected manufacturing defect. That by itself can be pretty frustrating, but then you’re faced with the unpleasant task of boxing the darned thing up again, shipping it back to the manufacturer and then spending your valuable time being interrogated by some overly-cautious service rep before you can get a new product shipped to replace the one that didn’t work. It’s not only frustrating, but it can also throw your entire schedule off track; instead of putting that new console sever or outlet metered PDU to work right away, you’re stuck waiting for another one to be delivered.
