Fix Chrome’s Safe Browsing Feature Blocking Some Downloads in the Browser

This sounds like it could either be very helpful or an invitation to trouble … depending on what you’re trying to download.

Google Chrome, Chromium, and probably the majority of web browsers based on it, come with a security module that scans file downloads automatically. The feature, called Safe Browsing by Google, displays a prompt at the bottom of the browser screen that informs you about malicious files that it. In fact, there are two different messages that may be displayed by Safe Browsing. The first reads “This file appears to be malicious. Are you sure you want to continue” while the second reads “[filename] is malicious, and Chrome has blocked it”.

Microsoft has kept their promise and built the Windows 8 RTM release which will be the version of the operating system that Windows users later on can buy as a standalone application, as an upgrade for one of their existing version of Windows, or included in a new computer they buy. Hitting the RTM ensures that Windows 8 will be in stores in time as developers and partners can start to test and integrate the operating system in their products.

If you spend a lot of time downloading music files and other stuff like that, this Firefox extension sounds like it could come in very handy.

While it is possible to configure the Firefox browser to download files automatically into one download folder on the system, it is not possible to customize this automated process further. Many users do not want all their downloads stored together in one folder, as they prefer different storage locations for downloads. This is for instance useful to sort files automatically in the right locations on the system to improve accessibility.

The size of a download is not always visible before initiating the download. Many websites, especially download portals, displays file size and extension information on their download pages, while others may not display any information about the download on the download page. This leaves the user guessing, and sometimes even surprised at the size of the download.
