You Can Now Lock Your Device with Android Device Manager

The “erase” feature might be over-kill, but being able to lock a portable device would come in handy in all kinds of different situations.

Google introduced the new Android Device Manager web service back in August. It allows you to run commands, such as locating your phone or to erase all data on it. This can be useful to find your phone if you have misplaced it, or to make sure that all data on the phone is deleted if you suspect or know that it has been stolen.

Hardwipe – Erase Hard Drives Securely

I haven’t tried this program myself, but it does look like a handy tool for wiping a hard drive clean before disposing of an old PC.

I usually give away old computer systems to friends or family when I build a new one. And since I’m building a new PC every one or two years, there seems to be always someone who could make good use of my old computer system.
