A vulnerability, first announced by Microsoft on September 17, 2013, has been released to the public which may increase attacks that exploit that vulnerability significantly. The vulnerability affects all versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Microsoft was aware of limited targeted attacks against Internet Explorer 8 and 9 when it released the security advisory but this situation may have changed in the meantime.

Rumor has it that Microsoft is going to kill gadgets in Windows 8, and while nothing has been confirmed yet it seems like a move that aims to get users to work with the Metro interface and the apps it provides. Vulnerabilities have moved into the focus of many Internet users. This time it is a new 0-day vulnerability for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer that could allow remote code execution on the target system. The critical vulnerability affects all versions of the browser from Internet Explorer 6 to 8, but mitigating factors exist that protect the system or reduce the impact of the vulnerability.
