White Noise for Chrome

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

This is kind of an interesting idea … but I think the white noise would be more likely to put me to sleep instead of helping me to concentrate.

Depending on your work environment you sometimes may get distracted or interrupted by noise. In my particular situation for instance, I tend to get distracted by dog walkers or service carts outside of my apartment. Others may be distracted by co-workers chatting on the phone, a refrigerator, television or anything else that is distracting them from work. Heck, even a computer that is to loud can be very distracting during work.

PlainClothes – Use Default Web Styles in Google Chrome

Monday, September 19th, 2011

If you do a lot of online reading, here’s a trick for Chrome that will make reading a little bit easier on your eyes …

I’m not a fan of blue on black text, or link colors that are barely distinguishable from a website’s background. While it is still possible to use a site that uses hard to read color sets, it is usually a lot easier to turn that color set into one that is more pleasing to the eye.

Google Translate for Google+

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

In the past, machine translation has always left a lot to be desired … but what the heck, maybe Google got it right this time …

I have been using Google’s new social networking site Google Plus ever since I received my invitation. To be honest, I have been spending more site on the site than I have on Facebook or Twitter combined. That’s still not much compared to social networking geeks who spend hours on those sites.

Google Dictionary Chrome Extension

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Here’s a particularly useful add-on for Google Chrome …

Google some time ago retired the Google Dictionary web service. Well, that’s not entirely correct. What Google retired was the frontend of that service on the web. The definitions are still available, but can only be displayed in Google Search.

JDChrome – Google Chrome JDownloader Integration

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

If you use Chrome to download stuff from Rapidshare and other file sharing sites, you might find this interesting …

JDownloader is one of the most popular programs to download files from file hosting services like Rapidshare, Megaupload or Filesonic. It offers several advantages over downloading files directly from the file host’s website. Among the advantages are a download queue, comfortable integration of premium accounts, link verifications and the option to unpack downloaded files right away on the local system.

Facebook Image Link for Google Chrome

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

If you’re unhappy with Facebook’s new image view feature, you might want to check this Chrome extension out …

The recent photo viewer changes on Facebook have caused quite the controversy among Facebook users. Facebook introduced a new photo view mode about a week ago. Among the complaints is that a right-click on a photo does not reveal options to copy its web address anymore which makes it that much harder to display images individually or save them to the local computer system.

Google Chrome Spellbox – Better Bookmarklet Management

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Here’s an interesting extension for Google Chrome …

Bookmarklets are little scripts that are stored as bookmarks in the web browser. The term combines the two words bookmarks and applets. A bookmarklet is usually a JavaScript program that provides access to a specific function, for instance search or web page modifications.

Google Chrome Tab Title Search Extension

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Here’s another handy add-on for those who like to keep a lot of tabs open while browsing …

Users who open many tabs at once in a web browser will eventually run into display problems. The browser window is only capable of displaying a finite number of tabs at the same time. Some browsers offer to change the minimum tab width (see Change Firefox’s Minimum, Maximum Tab Width), but that is only a temporary solution as the available tabbed browsing space remains finite.

4Chan Plus For Google Chrome – Improves 4Chan’s Usability

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

I’ve never used 4Chan myself, but this extension sounds like an improvement over previous version …

4chan, love it, hate it or be indifferent to it. The web forum is one of the most controversial websites on the Internet these days. The website itself feels dated on the other hand, especially the way threads and forums are displayed to the user.

Google Chrome Auto Refresher

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

This sounds like a useful add-on … especially for impatient people, like me.

Have you ever been hammering down on the f5 key on the keyboard to refresh a website waiting for something to change on that page? Maybe it was during the last minute of an online auction, maybe the confirmation email that did not arrive yet in the email inbox, or a reply to a technical problem that you have posted in a web forum.
