Google Buys Motorola Mobility

I’m so old, that I can remember when Google was just a search engine …

You have probably heard it already: Google just announced that they are going to buy Motorola’s Mobile division, Motorola Mobility. The official press release on Google investor relations confirms that Google will pay $40.00 per share for a total sum of about $12.5 billion US Dollars which is a 63% premium “to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday, August 12, 2011″.

Google Shows Off Android for Tablets

Ten years ago, who would have guessed that Google would eventually become such a major player in the software market?

I’m going to come clean, I’m not a fan of Google’s Android operating system.  I just don’t think that a desktop / icons approach is appropriate for either a smartphone or a tablet.  That said I’ve now seen the demonstration video for Google’s forthcoming ‘tablet’ version of the operating system, codenamed Honeycomb and I’m quickly becoming a convert.
