If you’ve never checked out the Internet Archive before, do yourself a favor and give it a quick look. The Archive is a great place to find completely free, legal and legitimate music, movies and books …

The Internet Archive over at archive.org is a non-profit that is building a digital library of Internet sites, accessible via the Wayback Machine, and other forms of culture in digital form. It is one of the largest repositories for books, music, images and movies which are all freely available for download at the site.

Mentor FM Tunes Into Your Facebook Account to Play Music You Like

… Or, if you’re like me and the part about allowing the program to access your Facebook account makes you nervous, you could just load your Ipod up with the music that you like, and listen to that instead.

Mentor FM is one of those tools that it is pretty awesome and scary at the same time. The Internet radio tunes into your Facebook account to play music that you like. The awesome part is that it usually gets things pretty right in this regard. All you need to do is to give the app permissions to connect to your Facebook account before you can start listening to a playlist that has been specifically made for you.

Find That Band – Search for Bands and Artists on Various Websites

This one has absolutely nothing to do with work … but heck, we can’t work all the time, can we?

Find That Band is an add-on for the Firefox web browser that simplifies the process of finding bands or artists on the Internet. Say you have just discovered a new band on YouTube, or received a recommendation from a friend to check out the next big music gig in town. You could now open a search engine or a popular site you know, Last.fm or Wikipedia for instance, to find out more about that band or artist.

Get to Know the Banshee Multi-Media Player

Here’s an interesting multi-media player for Linux …

If you are a Ubuntu fan, you know the change is coming. As of Ubuntu 11.04, the default media player will migrate from Rhythmbox to Banshee. When I first read this announcement, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I was a fan of last.fm and knew, in order to stream last.fm in Banshee a paid subscription was required. But when I found out that Amazon.com MP3 integration was now built into Banshee, I lost any trepidation.

Is Apple about to kill MP3?

This isn’t exactly “news;” Apple has been trying to kill off the MP3 format for years.

It’s long been rumored that Apple will launch a streaming music service to rival (erm… their rival) Spotify.¬† Now the company is talking up “an exciting announcement from iTunes” tomorrow with the headline “Tomorrow is just another day, that you’ll never forget”.
