OpenStreetView launches

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016

This is an interesting idea, with the potential to provide a really unique mapping service, but it looks like it’s still got quite a ways to go when it comes to providing the level of coverage that Google Street View provides.

OpenStreetView is a free crowd-sourced service by OpenStreetMap that offers street imagery that users of the service push to it while using it. OpenStreetMap is an open source alternative to Google Maps, Bing Maps and other mapping services. The new OpenStreetView however works different than services like Google StreetView despite the naming similarities.
