Opera 11 Revamps Address Field, Mouse Gestures Facelift, Adds Extension Options

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Sounds like the Opera engineers have been very busy …

The Opera desktop team has added several improvements to the latest public snapshot of the upcoming Opera 11 web browser. Opera users who have tested previous snapshots will most likely notice the new address field first. Opera 11 displays information about a website in a block in front of the website address.

Opera Gets Autocomplete with Buscomplete Extension

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Here’s a useful extension for Opera …

The Opera browser in its current form is not offering a Firefox-like autocomplete functionality, one where the browser remembers text entered into forms on web pages to display it again when the user makes use of the form again. The closest thing so far to autocomplete is to add preconfigured values to Opera Wand which are then displayed for all text fields.

Opera NoAds Extension

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Ads take up bandwidth; so therefore, the more ads that one blocks, the faster that pages download.

I don’t like ad blockers as I make my living from those ads. The more users install ad blockers, the less money I make. It is that simple. My hope is that regular visitors of my sites turn off their ad blockers or NoScript add-ons when they visit my sites. But enough about that.

Here’s yet another browser update … I feel sorry for the people who are running IE, Chrome, Firefox and Opera all on the same machine; they must spend most of their time downloading updates!

Now that was fast. A first alpha release of Opera 11 was released by Opera Software only a few days after the announcement that Opera 11 would get extensions. The new web browser is available for all supported operating system. Even better, there are already extensions to try out. Do not expect thousands yet though, considering that this is the first public release with extensions build in.

Breaking – Opera 11 Will Get Extensions

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

It will be interesting to see if this expands Opera’s user base …

Who would have thought that? ESPEN ANDRÉ ØVERDAHL over at Opera has just revealed that the next big iteration of the Opera web browser will have extensions. Yes, extensions like Firefox or Google Chrome. That’s probably the one major feature that is missing in Opera currently. Think of the possibilities for a moment. With extensions, it will be possible to port several of the most popular and important extensions to the browser, which will surely increase its popularity overall.
