Browser extensions can improve a web browser’s functionality significantly. They can improve a user’s workflow on the web or add information to the browser that would otherwise not be directly accessible. When you look at popular extensions you will notice that they differ considerable between browsers.

Opera Tab Vault – Temporary Tabs Storage

This seems like a useful feature; I wonder how long it will be before the other browsers add a similar feature?

How do you handle new interesting websites if you do not have time to use or access them right away? Some users like to keep the sites open until they do, even if that means that the website will be open in a tab for a day or two. Others use bookmarks to save the website address which saves some memory but adds the possibility that they forget all about the discovery.

Opera Snap Links – Another Useful Extension Ported

Here’s an interesting add-on for Opera 11 …

The introduction of extensions in Opera 11 and the release of Opera 11 final has seen an increase in third party development for the web browser. Popular browser extensions, like the Last Pass password manager, have already found their way to the Opera browser. The latest port of a useful add-on is called Snap Links which adds options to open multiple links at once in Opera.

Opera Gets Autocomplete with Buscomplete Extension

Here’s a useful extension for Opera …

The Opera browser in its current form is not offering a Firefox-like autocomplete functionality, one where the browser remembers text entered into forms on web pages to display it again when the user makes use of the form again. The closest thing so far to autocomplete is to add preconfigured values to Opera Wand which are then displayed for all text fields.

Opera – Please Fix the Opera Extensions Page

This might be kind of picky, but the article does make a valid point … the Opera Extensions Page does indeed need a re-design.

If you have followed the news surrounding the Opera web browser lately you know that the upcoming Opera 11 browser features an extensions framework, much like the one used by the Google Chrome web browser. (for the nitpickers, I’m not saying it is the same, I’m saying it looks similar from a user perspective).

Opera 11 Alpha with Extensions Available

Here’s yet another browser update … I feel sorry for the people who are running IE, Chrome, Firefox and Opera all on the same machine; they must spend most of their time downloading updates!

Now that was fast. A first alpha release of Opera 11 was released by Opera Software only a few days after the announcement that Opera 11 would get extensions. The new web browser is available for all supported operating system. Even better, there are already extensions to try out. Do not expect thousands yet though, considering that this is the first public release with extensions build in.

Breaking – Opera 11 Will Get Extensions

It will be interesting to see if this expands Opera’s user base …

Who would have thought that? ESPEN ANDRÉ ØVERDAHL over at Opera has just revealed that the next big iteration of the Opera web browser will have extensions. Yes, extensions like Firefox or Google Chrome. That’s probably the one major feature that is missing in Opera currently. Think of the possibilities for a moment. With extensions, it will be possible to port several of the most popular and important extensions to the browser, which will surely increase its popularity overall.
