Toshiba’s Windows 8 Devices Will Come with Start Menu Replacement

Given the number of third party products that are designed to restore the start menu to Windows 8, plus Toshiba’s inclusion of a start menu replacement with their new Windows PCs, it’s starting to sound like Windows 8 might have a compatibility problem; the lack of a start menu is incompatible with many Windows users.

There are more than 10 alternative start menu programs available for the Windows 8 operating system of which the majority are available for free. One could think that this in itself is overkill for an operating system that has not been released yet. It is likely that things will get sorted out eventually, that one or two popular apps rise to the top and are used by the majority of Windows 8 users who want the start menu back.

The best way to protect data on one of your storage devices is to encrypt it. There are several free solutions out there, for instance by using the Open Source encryption software True Crypt, to protect data from unauthorized access.


Toshiba Recalls Overheating and Melting Satellite T-Series Notebooks

Thursday, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada announced a recall of three Toshiba Satellite T-series notebook computers: T135, T135D and ProT130, for reports that the units’ AC adaptors cause them to overheat and melt.
