Turn Removable USB Devices into Windows Installers

Monday, May 20th, 2013

Here’s an interesting program that would come in particularly handy if your computer lacks a CD-Rom drive or a DVD drive …

Life was so easy back in the days when every computer had a CD-Rom drive and operating systems were delivered on CDs. While that option is still available, albeit in the form of DVD drives and DVDs, it is not the universal solution anymore that it was some time ago.

Many ultrabooks, all tablets and other devices may not ship with DVD drives anymore which may make it quite difficult to install a new operating system on those devices. The usual way to do so is to create a bootable USB Flash drive that you can install the operating system from.

Here’s an interesting program that seems to address the threat of viruses and malware that propagate via USB drives …

When you connect a removable USB drive to a Windows PC, you will notice that it works in many regards like any other hard drive or storage device on the PC from that moment on. BitDefender USB Immunizer 3.0 Update Released

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

USB immunization is an incredibly handy tool to have at one’s disposal … especially if you’re taking night classes and have already contaminated a couple of flash drives by plugging them into infected computers at school.

USB Immunizer was launched by BitDefender exactly a year ago as a free complimentary security tool to protect the system against attacks using Windows’ autorun functionality. The tool therefor is basically used to protect malware from running automatically when an USB drive is connected to the computer, or when a clean drive is connected to an infected computer that is spreading malware with the help of removable drives.

It is pretty easy to forget to remove an USB Flash drive or stick from a computer system on shutdown. Some devices are that small that it is easy to overlook them when shutting down a computer. While that’s not a big issue at home, it can very well be one if you happen to use public computers or computers at work. Maybe you have important data stored on the stick or drive like a password manager with all of your account passwords, or documents that are important for work or study.

Troubleshoot Please Insert a Disk Into Drive Error in Windows

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

I’ve never had this happen myself, but then again, it’s been a long time since I’ve used a computer with a removable hard drive.

Tony, a new user of the Ghacks forum asked for help regarding a issue with his removable hard disk and Windows 7. While the disk was showing up in the operating system, a click on it to access it in Windows Explorer yielded the error message “Insert Disk, Please Insert A Disk Into Drive” followed by the assigned device letter of the drive.
