BitDefender USB Immunizer 3.0 Update Released

USB immunization is an incredibly handy tool to have at one’s disposal … especially if you’re taking night classes and have already contaminated a couple of flash drives by plugging them into infected computers at school.

USB Immunizer was launched by BitDefender exactly a year ago as a free complimentary security tool to protect the system against attacks using Windows’ autorun functionality. The tool therefor is basically used to protect malware from running automatically when an USB drive is connected to the computer, or when a clean drive is connected to an infected computer that is spreading malware with the help of removable drives.

I haven’t tried this myself, but it sure does sound useful. If I’d had this about five years ago, I could have saved myself from tossing a couple of infected flash drives …

Back in the days of the floppy drive, disks where the most common way of spreading viruses and malware. The Internet has taken over, and floppy drives are long gone. They have been replaced by removable drives and optical discs, which are also capable of spreading malware.
