Hardwipe – Erase Hard Drives Securely

I haven’t tried this program myself, but it does look like a handy tool for wiping a hard drive clean before disposing of an old PC.

I usually give away old computer systems to friends or family when I build a new one. And since I’m building a new PC every one or two years, there seems to be always someone who could make good use of my old computer system.

Securely delete files with secure-delete

I haven’t tried this myself, but it sounds like it would come in handy for a last minute clean-up, when selling or donating an old computer.

There are times when you need to delete a file…REALLY need to delete a file. Anyone who has been in the business of PCs long enough knows that when you simply delete a file it can be recovered. If someone is clever enough, and has the means, they could recover a file that had been written over even by re-installing an OS over the original file.
