How to Clear Your YouTube Video Viewing History

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

I’m not really all that embarrassed by the stuff that I watch on YouTube, but for some reason, it’s always bugged me when sites track stuff like this …

All videos that you view on the popular video hosting website YouTube are logged by the service if you are logged in on the site during the time you are watching the video. While that may be great at times if you want to find that one video again that you watched a couple of days ago, it can also be embarrassing if other users work sometimes on your PC.

YouTube Video Quality Manager

Monday, July 25th, 2011

This is news to me; I didn’t realize that YouTube offered videos in higher resolutions …

Is it possible to set a different default YouTube video quality for all videos hosted on the video hosting site? YouTube plays videos in 360p by default. Users who want a different video quality need to click on the 360p link on the video page to switch to another quality setting. And that needs to be done manually for every video. Lots of unnecessary clicking if you ask me.

Opera YouWatch – Tracks or Hides Watched Videos on Youtube

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

If you spend a lot of time on YouTube, you might find this one interesting …

One of the things that is not perfect on Youtube is the fact that videos that you have already watched are still showing up in search results. Youtube could at the very least add a marker to let users know that they have watched that particular video in the past. Not everyone may think this is important but if you ever researched a topic on Youtube by searching and using related video links you may appreciate a feature like this.

I don’t really need another video player, but the ability to download YouTube videos definitely sounds useful …

We have seen our fair share of applications that offer to download Youtube videos, both as browser extensions and as desktop applications. Some, like the excellent Firefox add-on Download Helper are still working while others have stopped working or vanished from view.

MultiPartTube – Play All Youtube Video Parts without Interruption

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

This sounds useful; especially for those who use their home computers as a kind of TV set …

Youtube’s video restrictions make it sometimes necessary to divide videos into multiple parts which are then shown under suggestions and sometimes added by the uploader in the video description.

It is rather cumbersome to watch a multi-part video on Youtube as it involves finding the next part of the video to continue watching a video.

Play YouTube Videos Right in Google, Bing and Yahoo

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Here are a couple of interesting alternatives that can be used to play YouTube videos without actually opening a YouTube page …

Whenever I find an interesting extension for one web browser, I try to find an extension with a similar functionality for others as well. Today I discovered the Chrome extension Video Viewer, which added the option to play linked videos directly on the pages they were linked from. That’s a time saver, considering that you do not have to click on the link to play it in a new tab.
